DESCRIPTION:This course provides emergency responders the knowledge and skills to meet the min. JPRs in NFPA 472\n\n\nFull Description\nThe purpose of the Hazardous Materials Technician course is to provide for the student already trained at the Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations level emergency responders with the knowledge and skills to meet the minimum job performance requirements as outlined in NFPA 472. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively identify hazardous materials make the necessary notifications\, perform scene isolation\, public protection actions and defensive control measures at hazardous materials incidents\, identify chemical and physical properties\, toxicology; recognition and identification of hazardous materials; laws\, regulations\, and standards\, information resources; personal protective equipment; detection devices\, hazard and risk assessment\, and decontamination; drum handling\, damage assessment and tactical considerations\, and leak control; handling cylinder emergencies\, drum sampling\, and terminating the incident; and required documentation.\n\nCost: $100 lab fee per student\n(checks paid to MAAC Foundation)

SUMMARY:National Weather Service Outdoor Event Planning Class
DESCRIPTION:Overview: \n\n\nElevate your event safety planning and decision making by joining this dynamic\, interactive seminar!  We will highlight the essential elements of an outdoor event hazardous weather safety plan and take a hands-on approach to incorporating tools and support services available from the National Weather Service into decision making.  Building on the successful 2025 format\, this year’s program features all-new interactive scenarios.  Take part in breakout groups\, collaborating directly with NWS staff to apply concepts to real-world situations\, followed by large-group discussions and sharing of ideas and best practices.  Seminar objectives include: \n\nDemonstrate awareness of NWS products and services available before and during special events\nUnderstand the importance of having an event weather safety plan and the importance of calculating the time needed to alert and evacuate/shelter the attendees\nUnderstand the importance of having a designated weather liaison for the event to support planning and decision making\nDemonstrate awareness and knowledge of NWS products\, services and Event Ready tools to make informed decisions regarding the execution of evacuation/shelter plans\n\nIntended Audience: \n\nNOT open to the public\nEmergency management\nPolice\nFire\nLocal government/community event planners\nPark district safety officials\nAnyone who may monitor weather for a community event\nOther local government agencies who make weather related decisions in the summer
