Provides mid-level officer/supervisor with information and skills to meet the min. JPRs in NFPA 1021.

This course is designed to give mid-level fire officers with the knowledge and skills to meet the
minimum job performance requirements as outlined in based on NFPA 1021: Standard for Fire
Officer Professional Qualifications. The course is designed for the Fire Officer who is ready to
assume more of a leadership role by moving into the middle management level of his/her
department. This course expands on the knowledge base attained in Fire Officer I by revisiting
some of the same subjects and adding additional material including Management, Government
Structure, Departmental Budget Planning and Management, Human Resource Management,
Community and Government Relations, Administration, Inspections and Investigations,
Emergency Service Delivery, along with Health and Safety.

Candidates must be self-motivated and possess the skills and abilities to function independently.

The District 1 Fire Academy is 24 weeks of initial firefighter training that will include state certifications in Hazardous Material Awareness/Operations, Firefighter I/II and all state required curriculum to function as a firefighter in the state of Indiana. Indiana District 1 Fire Training and the MAAC will be putting on a two-day extrication class focusing on bus operations and Indiana vehicle extrication technician skills. The skills will be based on IFSTA Principles of Extrication, 4th ed, with a couple of others thrown in.
