COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Homemade Explosives: Awareness, Recognition, and Response course is designed to provide
emergency first responders with the skills to recognize and respond to incidents involving Homemade
Explosives (HME) through lectures and exercises.

Emergency first responders are presented with information necessary to recognize HME precursors,
HME manufacturing indicators, and HME exposure indicators, and determine pre-detonation and postdetonation response strategies.
Throughout this course, emergency first responders discuss how to implement safe response strategies
with recognizing the presence of HME indicators; understanding these response actions is critical to
mitigating the hazards associated with HME.
