Indiana American Water Supports MAAC Foundation’s Efforts to Inspire the Next Generation of First Responders
The MAAC Foundation is proud to recognize Indiana American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation for their support of our mission and their investment in the next generation of firefighters, emergency medical professionals, law enforcement officers, and other first responders.
Through a workforce development grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation, Indiana American Water is helping the MAAC Foundation expand opportunities that introduce young people to careers in public safety and provide pathways for them to develop the skills needed to serve their communities.
For Indiana American Water, supporting first responders is a natural extension of the work the company already does throughout the communities it serves. The utility works closely with fire departments to maintain hydrants and ensure adequate water flow is available when firefighters respond to emergencies. This grant provides another opportunity to strengthen that relationship by investing directly in the future of the first responder workforce.
“We partner a lot through our fire departments,” Indiana American Water Operations Manager Justin Mount told GreatNews.Life. “Every year, we try to find ways to show our appreciation for our fire departments and first responders.”
At the MAAC Foundation, developing the next generation of first responders is an important part of creating safer and stronger communities. By providing access to realistic training environments, experienced instructors, career exploration opportunities, and hands-on learning, the MAAC helps individuals better understand the many career paths available within public safety.
Support from organizations like Indiana American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation helps make those opportunities possible.
“This is our first go at it,” Mount said of the partnership. “The MAAC Foundation creates opportunities for our regional fire departments and first responders, so we thought it would be a great partnership.”
The partnership also reflects a value shared by both organizations: safety.
Indiana American Water demonstrated that commitment throughout the severe storms that impacted Northwest Indiana this summer. According to the company, its teams worked around the clock to maintain safe and reliable water service, utilizing backup power to keep facilities operational. Indiana American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation have also supported several organizations throughout Northwest Indiana, including disaster relief efforts through the American Red Cross.
For the MAAC Foundation, partnerships like this extend far beyond financial support. They represent a shared commitment to strengthening our communities by ensuring future generations have opportunities to explore careers in public service and receive the training they need to succeed.
