Winter 2026 Volunteer Fire Academy Week 17

The Volunteer Fire Academy paused last week as many instructors (and many of us at the MAAC) attended FDIC in Indianapolis, so this week’s video will be a little different! Instead we are featuring the students from the Porter County Career and Tech Center Fire & Rescue program getting valuable hands-on experience in both the Flashover Building and the Burn Building.
These live fire training evolutions give students an idea of how fire behaves in real structures, helping them recognize changing conditions, understand fire behavior, and practice safe, coordinated response techniques alongside experienced instructors.
In this update, you’ll hear from Carl (who is sponsored by Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department, Valparaiso Fire Battalion Chief Bob Schulte, and some of the students as they share what this type of training means for preparing for futures in the fire service!
